Kovalam is the most popular beach
in Kerala. Situated on the Malabar Coast along the Kerala shoreline is
a small village of Kovalam. This quiet town of Kovalam came on the tourist
map, when its beautiful and secluded beaches were discovered.
This enchanting strip of golden sands is laced with the rich greenery of coconut palms. Kovalam is an evergreen and pleasant climatic beach resort. It is a dreamy place for tourists all over the world. Today Kovalam beach is known as the "Paradise of the South". With high rock promontory and a calm bay of blue waters, this beach paradise creates a unique aquarelle on moonlit nights. Kovalam was brought to the public eye by the Maharaja of Travancore. Over the past three decades, the place has been well developed, and now figures prominently on the world tourism map.
The palm-fringed bays of Kovalam in secluded coconut groves, promise a relaxed stay. The unforgettable image of Kovalam is that of the coconut-palms-lined high rock promontory that cuddles the calm and wide expanse of the blue waters. This marvellous beach is a tourist's dream come true. It is warm and clean by the coconut trees and the white sandbed as the seabreeze gently plays with the waves. Swimming and bathing are very refreshing and exhilirating in the waves. One can walk into the sea about 100 metres without loosing ground. The beaches of Kovalam are divided into three parts.The southern most beach and the most popular from the three, is the Lighthouse Beach. Here one can have a spectacular view of the Vizhinzam mosque. Photography is prohibited here. The middle beach is called Hawah. Each morning this beach acts as a base for the local fisherman. Kovalam is a natural bay ideal for kayaking, swimming, surfing and skiing. There are a lot of restaurants which provide western style food as well as Indian, which is delicious. Many people from different countries and cultures, intermingling their languages get together in this paradise of the South and spend their leisure time joyfully. It makes moments heavenly. At present Kovalam is developed not only as a beach resort, but also as a Yoga and health center. How to Get There:By Air:Nearest Airport - Trivandrum (20 kms).Indian Air Lines , Air India, Air Lanka, East West Airlines and Gulf Air operate direct service from Trivandrum to Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Goa, Bangalore, Cochin, Calicut, in addition to international services to Sri Lanka, Maldives, Gulf countries and Singapore. By Train:Nearest rail head is Trivandrum Central.Trivandrum is connected by rail with many important cities.
